Penarth Cricket Club started its Female Division back in March 2019 with the launch of a Ladies Softball team. With some indoor winter sessions in Stanwell thanks to a sponsor; and outdoor training at club commencing on May 1st, Summer 2019 was quite a successful year for the young team. We took part in quite a few Softball festivals and were able to come runners up in a few and even won the Festival at Radyrs bringing home the first cup.
In the past 3 years PCC Ladies have also taken part in the Winter League, the first year 2020 we were runners up; 2021 was the year we were lifted the cup and became Winter League Champions. 2022 saw a bit of a slow-down, and decline in the number of ladies, and therefore we are currently seeking fresh faces to represent the Penarth Ladies team. Please sign up using the link below if you are interested. No experience is required, and it is all soft-ball for fu and leisure.
2021 marked the launch of our Girls division as Penarth had a record number of girls enrolled in the Dynamos program. Most of these girls enjoyed the game tremendously, hence leading us to continue Girls’ sessions even after the 8 weeks of Dynamos, after which there was no looking back. The Penarth Girls A team went on to win the County Championship that was a historic event as Penarth Cricket Club hosted its First All Girls Tournament in 2022.
These girls continued to develop as we commenced a winter session for girls as well; now the girls team has the same practice routine and sessions as the boys’ teams. As interest grew, some of the advanced girls moved on to Hardball cricket.
We now have 2 streams for the Girls: Hardball and Softball. As we are always looking to further develop our teams, we enrolled some of the Hard-ball girls in the Talent Pathway stream with Cricket Wales, and 6 girls represent Penarth in the South Wales Girls team. 3 in the U11s and 3 in the U13s.
Although we have achieved a tremendous amount in a short time, we are always looking for new players. And to keep the momentum we would also continue to need volunteers to coach, help coach or simply transport the teams to and from the games. Please sign up to join the Girls teams or to volunteer and help out take Penarth Girls to the next level.
